Tomorrow is May 5th, National day for awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2-Spirit People. We wear red in mourning and respect, and as a call for justice. As both an acknowledgement and a condemnation of the fact that our Nation’s response to this epidemic of violence against our Indigenous siblings continues to be ineffective and frankly negligent.
We must each commit to affect positive change in our own communities. We must dispel harmful stereotypes about Indigenous Peoples, support organizations that provide resources to people in abusive situations, and fight for the upheaval of colonial structures that contribute to this violence.
Further information regarding this issue can be found on our Educational Resources page.
